Student Advisory Regarding Copyright Infringement:
The concept of private property is one of the building blocks of our society. To take the property of another without permission is theft. This concept is also applicable to intellectual property, including text, research documents, music, and video entertainment.
Students and employees at Charles and Sue's School of Hair Design are prohibited from using the School's computers, networks, or other electronic devices for the purpose of illegally duplicating or sharing copyrighted material. This not only includes text-based or printed material, but also downloaded or shared music, video, or other media files.
Students or employees who engage in the illegal duplication or distribution of copyrighted material using the School's computers, networks, or other equipment are subject to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the School. Further, unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing, may subject the offender to civil and/or criminal liabilities.
Student Advisory:
Students are advised that the School's computer networks and equipment are monitored and all network activity can be observed and traced by School officials. Charles and Sue's has developed plans to effectively combat the unauthorized downloading of copyrighted material, including the use of a variety of technology-based deterrents and detection technologies.
Potential Legal Consequences:
While minor violations of copyright laws may result in disciplinary actions at the School and/or civil penalties, fines and potential lawsuits from offended parties, large scale violations may also result in more severe penalties, including potential federal criminal charges. A summary of the legal penalties for violation of federal copyright laws can be obtained at GPO - Federal Copyright Laws.
